Oh MAN @nickbiedma introduced me to this little chicken nugget today at the Burbank Animal Shelter and holy crap I’m obsessed. His name is Duke, he’s 14 years old, he’s had a bit of a rough go at things but that hasn’t stopped him from being the sweetest boy who just wants to sit in your lap and wag his tail. Three years ago I took a road trip through the Pacific Northwest with three people: two of my closest friends and one guy I’d never met before. That trip changed my life, my friendships, and over the course of ten days, that guy I’d never met before now knew more about me than most of the people in my life. Over the course of the next three years, all four of us kept in touch and updated each other on our lives nearly every single month like clockwork. Last week I got to see that guy marry the love of his life, and watching that happen and seeing the two of them together filled my heart to the brim and reminded me that there are a few great things left in the world. Thank you so much for having me @pixelsasjord and @shlee_m. You’re the real deal. And thank you @nevetsa12 and @wanderadams for this crazy amazing journey with all of us. #mckeller713

On the way to the airport through the rolling green fields of Michigan, I made a quick detour to fulfill a lifelong dream of mine - BERRY PICKING!! I followed some billboards and little arrow signs to The Extraordinary Berry, tucked away between some trees with rows and rows of raspberries beyond a little wooden shack with a cashier counter. I went up to the counter and said, Hello, I would like to pick some berries please, and the owner, a 74 year-old woman named Coco who is a huge Game of Thrones fan, along with her little roly poly dog Maggie, led me to the fields and showed me how to look for the hidden ripe raspberries that are mostly under the leaves and fall right off the stem. I was alone as I wandered up and down the rows and it started to drizzle and everything felt sort of misty and secret. I picked a little carton full of fresh raspberries and ate them on the way to the airport and by the time I got there, my hands were stained red and it had stopped raining.
Today was overwhelmingly beautiful and this weekend I’ll make a proper post about it. For now, have this mid-wedding selfie. Crazy hair courtesy of seriously getting down on the dance floor.
Some of the best news ever today - Darcy got ADOPTED!! Where to even begin with him - he came to us as a kitten, was fostered, would hiss and strike if you put your hand near him but if you wrangled him into your arms, he’d turn into a purring ball of mush. He was fostered again, was a growing boy and kept getting bigger, then one day randomly got extremely sick for unknown reasons. He was in and out of the hospital, pretty much at death’s door, but somehow he fought it off, fully recovered, and came back to our program, where he was even more distrustful of hands and people now that he’d been poked with needles a bunch, but we still ferociously snuggled him at every opportunity. It’s been a long journey and we knew he had to go to the absolute perfect home, where his family would understand him and all his idiosyncrasies and be patient helping him feel fully comfortable for the first time in his life. This little nutjob also loves other cats and now he’ll have a little brother almost his own age to play with, and an older sister to cuddle with. Socializing cats can be a slow process - there is no one size fits all method; every single cat is different and it can be really hard to keep hoping and hoping the right people for each cat eventually come in. I’m so happy the right people for Darcy finally walked through the door and we can get him into his very own home. I’m gonna miss your adorable annoyed face and your wide eyes and snuggling you while you purr despite your better judgment. Congrats, Darcy boy. You did it. #adoptdontshop #rescuecat #catsofig
